Explainer: Fearing war with Russia will Ukraine not join NATO?

 

Ukraine's ambassador to Britain, Pristacio, was asked if Ukraine could change its stand on NATO membership. In response to this, he said, "Especially after getting threats like this, after being blackmailed, we can probably do this."

 Ukraine is not currently a NATO country, but in 2008 it was announced by NATO that Ukraine would also be included in NATO. This will give US-led forces access to the Russian border. In 2019, an amendment was also made in the Constitution of Ukraine to achieve this goal.
